The Institute of Journalism, Media and Social Communication belongs to the youngest academic departments at the Jagiellonian University. On the other hand, the IJMSC is one of the oldest, largest and most prestigious research centres focused on media studies in Poland. The past quarter-century saw rapid organizational and research-programme development of the Institute.

We form a coherent and dynamic team. We focus our interest on the fascinating, highly dynamic changes taking place in and trough the media. We uphold the long-standing Krakow tradition of media studies, developed e.g. by Professor Walery Pisarek, the founder of Polish press studies. We conduct empirical research aimed to document transformations and identify development directions of communication processes and of the media.

We are distinguished by our extensive educational programme, including a rich offer of practical and occupational classes taught by experts in various media types. The key strength of IJMSC lies in its students: invariably creative, enthusiastic, open to the world, communication and the media.
